Six Best New Personal Care + Wellness Product Awards Presented at NY NOW

Six companies were named Personal Care + Wellness Best New Product Award recipients during the summer 2013 debut of NY NOW, the Market for Home & Lifestyle in New York City.

The twice-a-year trade show had been known as the New York International Gift Fair, and the beauty-products area was called EX*TRACTS.

Personal Care + Wellness—part of NY NOW’s LIFESTYLE Collection and held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center—featured about 100 companies that offered a targeted mix of cosmetics, perfumes, skin care, bath & body care, beauty accessories, hair care, natural/organic products and well-being lines.

Here are the summer 2013 winners and finalists—selected from 65 products, according to Personal Care + Wellness sales manager Melissa Engongoro:

BEST OF SHOW:
Winner: Soap & Paper Factory (Congers, New York) for Deco Collection Hand Stirred Soap hand wrapped in bold designs and finished off with a wax seal

BATH & BODY:
Winner: Agraria (Los Angeles) for Agraria Bath Bar Collection 100% vegetable-based soap that is triple-milled, contains olive oil, vitamin E, shea butter, yucca oil, kukui oil, grape seed oil and sea fennel
Finalist: Porcelain Co. (Huntsville, Alabama) for Elemental Gift Set "RESERVED"
Finalist: Olivina Napa Valley (Franklin, Tennessee) for Sandalwood & Amber Body Butter

BEAUTY ACCESSORY:
Winner: Shelley Kyle Parfums (Atlanta) for Large Powder Puff, a body and linen powder with powder puff set
Finalist: Naked Princess (Beverly Hills, California) for Naked Shine Lip Gloss
Finalist: Lady Primrose (Grand Prairie, Texas) for Tryst Powder Jar

COSMETIC & FRAGRANCE:
Winner: LOVE NATURE NYC (Brooklyn, New York) for The Bohème Candle Collection, each of which is hand poured and made with natural soy wax, cotton wick and a phthalate-free essential and fragrance oil blend
Finalist: Serene House (Sturtevant, Wisconsin) for YOYO Black
Finalist: Shelley Kyle (Atlanta) for Tiramani Fragrance by Shelley Kyle

NATURAL/ORGANIC:
Winner: Anjolie Ayurveda (Hastings on Hudson, New York) for The Botanical Collection: Eau de Parfum made with essential oils, botanicals and woods
Finalist: Lotus Love Beauty (San Diego) for Lotus Love Beauty Holiday Bath Salts
Finalist: Worker B (Minneapolis) for Worker B Beeswax/Camelina Oil Candle

PACKAGING:
Winner: K. Hall Studio (St. Louis) for Barr-Co Soap Shop soaps covered with colored paper covers
Finalist: Dollars & Scents (Jamaica, New York) for Fraiche
Finalist: Boîte à Savon-La Maizon (Simi Valley, California) for the Mondrian Collection

Winners and finalists in the various categories were selected by a panel of trade and consumer publication editors based on several criteria, including innovative design, creative use of materials/construction and use of new materials/technology.

The Best New Product Award judges were Jean Warshaw, "Beauty & The Law" columnist for Beauty Store Business; Tina Benitez-Eves of Gifts & Decorative Accessories; Pan Demetrakakes of Giftware News; Nancy Jeffries of Happi Magazine; Paula Kajankova of Insiders Guide to Spas/Spirituality & Health; Patricia Norins of GIFT SHOP; Candice Sabatini of Beautynews NYC; Jolene Turner of American Salon; and Victoria Wurdinger of Salon Today.

NY NOW’s four comprehensive collections—LIFESTYLE, HOME, HANDMADE and NEW!—encompass 100,000 products in more than 400 product categories. Some 35,000 attendees from all 50 states and more than 80 countries worldwide attended.

The winter 2014 NY NOW show will take place Feb. 1-6—with an extra day (Feb. 6) and at an additional venue (Passenger Ship Terminal Pier 92), which were announced in July due to the overlap with Super Bowl XLVIII (to be held Feb. 2 in East Rutherford, New Jersey).
