French pharmaceutical and dermo-cosmetics company Laboratoires Expanscience has announced its acquisition of plant-based skincare company Babo Botanicals.
Inspired by her search for safe and natural skincare products for her children, Kate Solomon founded Babo Botanicals in 2010 to produce botanically infused skin and hair care for babies, children and adults with sensitive skin.
Through this acquisition, Expanscience cements its place in this growing market for families, and gains a business brand complementary to one of its own brands Mustela, another company specializing in skin care for babies and new mothers. The acquisition will help Mustela expand its access to distributors and big retailers in the U.S. such as Whole Foods, where Babo Botanicals will be launching, in addition to international markets.
“This acquisition marks an important milestone in Expanscience’s development in the U.S. market,” says Jean-Paul Berthomé, president of Laboratoires Expanscience. “Babo Botanicals will accelerate Mustela’s growth in the U.S. and is fully aligned with our commitment to the well-being of consumers. We share the same values and ambitions. We look forward to working with Kate Solomon and to providing Babo Botanicals with our expertise and resources to grow the brand both in the U.S. and abroad."
Likewise, founder of Babo Botanicals, Kate Solomon says, “Being part of a company such as Expanscience, known for its expertise in safe product formulations, development of natural active ingredients, and its dedicated R&D and production center in France, is a tremendous opportunity for Babo Botanicals to further grow the brand and its visibility and presence globally.”
Babo Botanicals, Expanscience and Mustela are B-Corp certified, an eminent, international label that acknowledges companies of their positive economic, social and environmental impact.
