Great Clips Names New President, COO

Great Clips has a new president. Steve Hockett, formerly COO of the Minneapolis-based salon franchise, assumed the role Jan. 1, upon former president Charlie Simpson’s semi-retirement.

Hockett’s 25-year tenure at Great Clips began as a franchisee, and over the years has included the roles of marketing manager, regional director, vice president of operations and, most recently, COO. His time at Great Clips was also broken up by stints as president of FranChoice and president of Rapid Refill.

Retailers Appeal Credit Card Swipe Fee Settlement

The National Retail Federation is appealing the approximate $6 billion class-action settlement approved by a U.S. District Court concerning credit card swipe fees.

The lawsuit was initially filed by merchants against Visa and MasterCard nearly a decade ago. The merchants claim that the two major credit card companies charge merchants excessive and exploitative fees for accepting the payment cards from customers.
